Luther

Luther HILLIS Jr. gave me this picture of his parents Wedding Photo.

Luther David HILLIS [16 Oct 1902 - 21 Sep 1928] was born in Texas, most likely Bowie County, as the family was in that area before going up into Oklahoma. Luther had a twin brother, Rufus Leonard HILLIS.

Luther married Bertha Louisa GROTTS, November 1920, in Crosby County, Texas.

Together, they had 3 children... Ruby, Ada, and Luther Jr., who was born about 3 months after Luther Sr. died.

Luther Sr. died in Plainview, Texas at the age of 25. He is buried in the Plainview Cemetery, in Plainview, Texas. Luther Jr. also gave me a photo of him at his father's gravesite, when he became an adult. He never got to know his father, in person!

Bertha never remarried, as far as I know... and she and the children ended up in California. If I remember correctly, her cousin married Luther's twin brother, Rufus... and they were also in California. Bertha died in April 1982  in Kern County, California, and is buried in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Bakersfield, California.Luther
